The new Porsche 911 Targa will go on sale in the UK in May, with prices starting from £86,281. Coming with either a 345bhp 3.4-litre engine in the Targa 4, or the more powerful 395bhp 3.8-litre unit in the 4S, the top-spec 911 Targa can sprint to 62mph in 4.4 seconds, has a top speed of 184mph and can return 30.7mpg on a combined cycle. Porsche says it wants to evoke the styling and memory of the 1967 original with the new Targa, but has it done enough to succeed?

Mercedes calls it a coupe, despite the fact that it has four doors, but what really matters is underneath the sheet metal: A 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 that sends 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque to all four tires. Its performance will be exceptional, but will the styling be enough to warrant the extra cost over the E-Class on which the CLS is based? This week, we find out.
