Back in late May, Continental Tyres invited 48 Autocar readers to Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands.

The aim: to see if they have what it takes for the ultimate road trip – a three-day grand tour around some of the best roads in southern France in 12 performance cars, putting Continental’s high-performance Black Chili tyres to the test on the way.

Over the course of the qualifying day, our 48 readers underwent a series of gruelling physical and coordination tasks that tested their teamwork, as well as handling, off-road and skid-pan sessions in a variety of performance Mercedes-Benz AMG models that challenged their driving skills.

In the end, 12 pairs of drivers ultimately made the grade.

Sometimes the most fun cars to test out are the ones with the smallest price tags. Here are our favorite reviews of some cars which cost just a little bit less than a Lamborghini.

Day 4 recap. After lining up the Energy Suspension body mounts, the Bronco began to take its final form. The crew slid the Duralast radiator into place and clamped down its hoses. The crew installed the steering shaft and its U-joints, linking the wheel to the steering pump. According to rumors, the crew is finished with wiring and only has a few loose ends to gather before we can test-fire the engine tomorrow!

Hot Wheels® goes to the Big Apple! For this nearby–New York City event, hundreds of custom builds—from a giant novelty shopping cart to a rolling bath-tub—came out, each competing for a chance to become an official 1/64th Hot Wheels®.

Day 3 recap. Day 3 began with the Bronco still in two separate pieces—the body, and the rolling chassis. As dinnertime drew nearer, the crew got as much wiring done on the Holley Sniper EFI, MSD distributor, and Weiand intake manifold as possible. By the end of the evening, the crew wheeled the chassis back under the Bronco body, and matched the two. Much progress, but far from complete.
