Netflix Kitchen: Playtest Cupcakes

Chocolate Black Mirror Cupcakes Recipe:

Cupcake:
1/2 cup coconut oil – melted
2 cups light brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup AP flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 cup hot water (or hot coffee)

Buttercream:
12 ounces butter, unsalted – room temperature
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon vanilla
1/4 cup milk

Whipped cream (store bought is fine!)
Gum paste
Edible image paper

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare a cupcake pan with liners.

In large bowl, whisk together all dry ingredients to combine and break up any lumps. Add remaining ingredients and mix until smooth and combined.

Portion in prepared cupcake pan and bake 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean or the cupcake springs back when lightly touched.

Let cool completely and fill cupcakes with whipped cream.

To make the buttercream :
Put soft butter and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer (hand mixer is good too!) and whip until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla and milk and mix on medium speed for 5 minutes.

To make the cupcake toppers:
Using edible ink and edible image paper, print off desired image. Cut out and place on a thin piece of gum paste that’s the same size. Let harden for at least an hour so it holds its shape.

Top the cupcakes with vanilla buttercream, sprinkles, gumpaste topper and eat. Smashing your cupcakes is fun – but you should really eat these 😉
