The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been becoming increasingly popular with movie fans for a while now, and it continues to impress with ultra popular series like Iron Man, Captain America and Guardians of the Galaxy (not to mention the Avengers!).
 
One of the things Marvel has done best is stringing their whole universe together, using little moments to foreshadow spoilers for movies that haven’t even been made yet! This has lead to Marvel fans looking for clues as to what might be the next nugget that tells the future of this amazing franchise.
 
The MCU so far has been built around the quest for the six Infinity stones, and one theory suggests that Heimdall’s eyes and abilities indicate the location of the Soul stone. Another stone, the Reality stone, could be used to recast some of our favourite roles.
 
There really is no limit to theories in the MCU. Some think that Peggy Carter is actually Tony Stark’s real mother. Some think that the Red Skull is still alive and the Hand is creating vampires. One theory suggests that Captain America will die in the next Avengers movie, another has Stan Lee’s cameos being much more, and yet another thinks Groot comes from a piece of the Yggdrasil, the world tree.
 
So many crazy theories! Well at least we don’t have the theory that Loki lost to the Avengers on purpose… Just kidding, we’ve got that too. All the crazy MCU fan theories you can handle, right here!

Eclipse Megamovie: Citizen science for the 2017 total solar eclipse

August 21, 2017 will be a very special day. For the first time in 100 years, a total solar eclipse will cross the United States. It’s not only an opportunity for millions of people to appreciate this rare astronomical event, but a chance for scientists to gain a better understanding of how the sun’s atmosphere behaves. Enter the Eclipse Megamovie Project.

Led by the University of California at Berkeley, scientists from multiple universities are turning to citizen scientists for help gathering images of the sun and its atmosphere, the corona. Volunteers armed with standard photography equipment—a camera, telephoto lens, and tripod—will capture photos of the eclipse as the moon’s shadow passes over their part of the country. Once this huge dataset is collected, it’s Google’s turn. We’ll use our technology to algorithmically align and process the images submitted by citizen scientists to create a continuous view of the eclipse: the Eclipse Megamovie.

In addition to the movie, the full dataset of images will be made available to the public and the scientific community. Time will only tell what insights and projects may come from this rich collection.
