Star Wars has been watched by millions of fans all over the world, but no matter how many lines you know or scenes you have memorized, there are some things you probably don’t know. Learning about these facts can offer a whole different perspective on the whole franchise and how things could have been different.
As planning for Return of the Jedi began, George Lucas wanted to tap his friend and famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg to helm the cast and crew as the director, but he had to pass due to Director Guild issues. Liam Neeson signed on for Star Wars Episode I without even reading the script, but did he make the right decision? Yoda is a huge character in the Star Wars franchise and it was his specific dialogue that helped convince fans of the huge Darth Vader twist. Harrison Ford wasn’t sure how far he wanted to go with the franchise and did not sign on for two sequels like other actors. Lando’s backstory is mostly related to Han Solo, but he was actually supposed to be a clone from the Clone Wars. Luke’s happy ending in Return of the Jedi was originally going to be very different and involve Darth Vader’s mask. When Star Wars was first edited, it was panned by many, including fellow director friends. The numbering for the films wasn’t established until the Empire Strikes Back was released. A lot of the character names are not even spoken in the films, it required toy sales to showcase where they actually came from. Watch to see these facts and learn more about the Star Wars universe!
