Gene B. Sperling is Senior Fellow for Economic Policy and Director of the Center on Universal Education at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C.

Gene Sperling was President Clinton’s National Economic Adviser and head of the National Economic Council from 1996-2000. Before joining the Council, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution from 2001-2002. In addition to his work at the Council, Gene also serves as a Contributing editor and columnist for Bloomberg News and a consultant and contributing writer for the television show The West Wing.
