Cheats have been a part of video games since the beginning, and they can often be good fun, but when players take matters into their own hands and try to cheat the system, developers take care to punish wrongdoers. As games have matured so too has the ability of developers to anticipate and punish all kinds of cheating and hacking. Today, developers often program the A.I. of their games to deal with cheaters in hilarious, ingenious ways.

From devising unwinnable boss fights to introducing bugs into the core gameplay loop to unique endings accessible only to cheaters and more, developers aren’t shy about punishing gamers who try to exploit their creations in unintended ways. We’re here today to take a look at the strangest, most devious ways developers have used A.I. to punish cheaters and hackers alike.
