– معظم وفيات سرطان الرئة (90% في الرجال و80% في النساء) بسبب التدخين.
– تختلف محتويات التبغ من المواد الكيميائية بعد إشعال السيجارة. تتغير طبيعة هذه المواد كثيرا لتصبح مواد مسرطنة, حيث تؤثر على الكيفية التي تنقسم فيها خلايا الجسم.
– يوجد أكثر من 40 مادة مسرطنة في السجائر بعد إشعالها.
– مقارنة بغير المدخنين, المدخنون أكثر عرضة للإصابة بسرطان الرئة بحوالي 23 مرة بالنسبة للرجال وبحوالي 13 مرة بالنسبة للنساء.
– التدخين يسبب سرطان الفم واللثة والبلعوم والمريء والمثانة البولية. تزيد الخطورة أكثر بين مدخني الغليون أو السيجار.
– التدخين قد يسبب سرطان الكلية, البنكرياس والمعدة.
– تزداد خطورة الإصابة بالسرطان طرديا مع عدد السجائر المستهلكة ومدة التدخين.
– تدخين السجائر التي تحتوي على كمية أقل من القطران لا يقلل فرصة الإصابة بالسرطان.
– سرطان عنق الرحم لدى النساء يزداد مع زيادة مدة التدخين.
– الجمع بين التدخين ومعاقرة الخمر تؤدي إلى سرطان البلعوم
– ثلث الرجال مدخنون.
– يوجد حوالي 1.1 مليار مدخن في العالم حاليا ومن المتوقع أن يرتفع إلى 1.6 مليار عام 2025م.
– الصين لوحدها فيها 300 مليون مدخن يستهلكون 1.7 تريليون سيجارة سنويا أي 3 مليون سيجارة كل دقيقة.
– 5 تريليون سيجارة تنتج وتستهلك سنويا أي ما يعادل 15 بليون سيجارة يوميا وهذا يعني 10 ملايين سيجارة تقريبا كل دقيقة.
– فلتر السيجارة مصنوع من ألياف رفيعة جدا لمادة بلاستيكية (وليس قطنا كما يعتقد الناس). هذه المادة البلاستيكية تسمى سيليولوز أسيتيت (Cellulose Acetate). هذه المادة تستغرق فترة من الزمن بين 18 شهرا إلى 10 سنين لكي تتحلل تماما.
– تزن فلاتر الـ 5 تريليون سيجارة مجتمعة حوالي 2 بليون رطل أي أكثر من 907 مليون كلغم.
– مع المواد السامة التي تبقى فيها, تشكل هذه الفلاتر المتبقية (أعقاب السجائر) أهم ملوثات البيئة عند الشواطئ والأنهار والجداول.

Carne Asada and Mexican Sparkling Wine: Chef’s Night Out with Diego Hernandez

When we visited chef Diego Hernandez at his restaurant Corazón de Tierra—located in the Guadalupe Valley in Ensenada, Mexico—we knew we were in for a night of delicious food and fine wine tasting, but we didn’t know we were about to step into an almost fraternal community of local chefs, winemakers, and entrepreneurs that all work together and share a life of food, drinks, and good times.

Diego gives us a tour that begins in his vegetable garden, where he chooses his everyday ingredients, then takes us to Laja, Jair Tellez’s restaurant that started it all. We visit a local wine cellar where we taste the finest Mexican sparkling wine, and end the day back in Corazón de Tierra, where Diego and Jair are in charge of the music and prepare some of the best carne asada ever tasted by mankind.
