قبل انتشار أجهزة التبريد كان يتم قطع الجليد من البحيرات المتجمدة للناس ليتم استعماله في التبريد وكانت وظيفة خطرة تصاحبها أجواء قاسية

غالباً ما كان يقوم بهذه الوظيفة الأطفال
ويتم توظيفهم لجمع وإعادة ترتيب كرات البولينج للاعبين بعد إحراز الأهداف

وهو مهرج البلاط الملكى أو النبلاء فى أوربا بالعصور الوسطى
وكانت وظيفته هى أضحاك الملك أو الأمراء
وغالباً يكون من الأقزام أو ذوى العاهات
