«ديفيد كوبر فيلد» هو الساحر الأعظم بلا منازع وأكبر أساتذة فن الوهم فى العالم بلا منازع ربما منذ زمن سحرة فرعون الذين سحروا أعين الناس
وقد نختلف فيما بيننا عم حقيقة السحر الذى يقدمه ( كوبرفيلد ) أن كان خدع عبقرية محكمة أم سحر حقيقى يستعين فيه بالجن وما لا علم لنا به
ولكننا بالـتأكيد لن نختلف على أن ما يقوم به مذهل بالفعل
أسمه الحقيقى «ديفيد سيث كوتيكن» وقد ولد عام 1956 هاجر والدة من أوكرانيا إلى الولايات المتحدة سعياً وراء الرزق
وفي سن العاشرة بدأ تعلم فنون السحر والإيهام، ونبغ فيه سريعاً وفي سن السادسة عشرة أصبح مدرساً لفنون السحر في دورة تدريبية نظّمتها جامعة نيويورك
عندما بلغ 18 عاماً بدأ المشاركة فى العروض المسرحية السحرية واتخذ لنفسه الأسم الذى عرف به حتى الأن «ديفيد كوبر فيلد» تيمناً بشخصية الكاتب «تشارلز ديكنز» الشهيرة ( دفيد كوبرفيلد ) وهي رواية من أشهر كتابات تشارلز ديكنز
أكتشفة المنتج جوزيف كيتس أحد منتجي برودواي، وقدّمه في عرض لقناة ABC تحت عنوان The Magic of ABC الذي قدّم فيه ديفيد أولى عروضه وصار نجماً يُستضاف في كل برامج التلفزيون حول العالم.
استمرت نجاحاته وعروضه المذهلة التي اجتاحت شاشات العالم كله، ومن أشهر الأعمآل التي قآم بهآ في هذه الفترة “إخفآء تمثآل الحرية” و “عبور سور الصين العظيم” سيراً على الأقدام بالإضآفة إلى خدعة الطيرآن الشهيرة واستطاع أن يستخرج مركباً غارقاً في المحيط، والعديد من العروض التى جعلت العالم ينبهر به وبأوزته الشهيرة التي رافقته في العديد من عروضه المتميزة التي قدّمها.
تعرّض كوبرفيلد لبعض الحوادث بسبب فقراته، ففي إحدى المرات وأثناء التدريب على فقرة تحت عنوان «الهروب من الموت» عام 1984، وهي فقرة تعتمد على تكبيله بالسلال داخل حوض كبير مملوء بالماء، حدث أن تشابكت السلاسل ولم يستطع ديفيد فك نفسه، واضطر مساعداه إلى إخراجه بعد حوالي دقيقة ونصف، بعد أن ابتلع الكثير من الماء وتم نقله إلى المستشفى
فاز برنامج كوبرفيلد بـ 21 جائزة إيمي كأفضل برنامج لإبداعه في المزج ما بين الوهم والحبكة في برنامجه.
كما حقق 11 رقماً قياسياً في موسوعة «جينس » للأرقام القياسية، وصارت له نجمة ذهبية في طريق المشاهير في هوليود، كما حصل على وسام ولقب فارس من الحكومة الفرنسية، وقام الكونوجرس بالاحتفاظ باسمه داخل مكتبته الخاصه باعتباره أسطورة حية
