Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer shares his thoughts on what the UK should do if the PM does not gain enough votes from MPs on her Brexit deal.

For over two years Theresa May has been working on a withdrawal plan to leave the European Union and today the central policy of her government looks set to be overwhelmingly rejected by the House of Commons. Analysis by Sky News estimates that she will lose by over 200 votes.

If that’s correct, no one knows what will happen next. Britain’s future will be uncertain with the Prime Minister herself warning that we could be heading for a no deal – or no Brexit.

The founder of Italy’s populist movement tells Sky News that it would be challenging the ‘basis of democracy’ if Brexit was abandoned.

Beppe Grillo, who founded the Five Star Movement, speaks on the consequences if MPs’ defeat the Brexit withdrawal agreement.

Speaking exclusively to Sky News, he says Brexit could be understood but you would “need to sit with a psychiatrist”.

“If you have referendum after referendum, it’ll never end,” he warned the UK.

“A second vote will simply lead to discussion of a third, and then a fourth, and then you are always going to just flip-flop between the side that feels let-down.”

He added: “But if a country goes through a referendum and then that decision is reversed – well, that challenges the very basis of democracy.”

The 71-year-old is one of Italy’s best-known stand-up comedians but he took his personality into European politics a decade ago.

The Five Star Movement, who have currently won the most seats in parliament, are led by an alliance between Matteo Salvini in combination with Luigi Di Maio.

The tennis champion says he is considering hip surgery, but it could rule him out of Wimbledon.

Murray told Sky News’ sports correspondent Martha Kelner that having the surgery could boost his chances of being able to play for longer.

“If I had the operation in the next week or so, it would be unlikely that I would be able to play Wimbledon,” he said.

The British star lost his first round Australian Open tie against Roberto Bautista Agut, but mounted a comeback from two sets down to take the match to five sets.

Murray previously suggested he could retire from tennis after his Australian Open appearance.

A Polish mayor who was stabbed while on stage at a charity event has died in hospital.

Pawel Adamowicz, the mayor of the city of Gdansk, was attacked in front of hundreds of people yesterday at an event to raise money for hospital equipment.

The politician underwent five hours of surgery for wounds to his heart and abdomen as locals queued to donate blood.

At least 26 people have died in Europe since the beginning of the year – in avalanches and accidents related to the record snowfalls on the continent.

In the latest incident, three men were killed in an avalanche near an Austrian ski resort. A fourth person is still missing.
