Boris Johnson heckled on visit to flood-hit Yorkshire

A week after the rain started falling, the army arrived in South Yorkshire to help the victims of the flooding that has engulfed communities near Doncaster.

Around 80 soldiers have been laying sand bags in towns along the River Don.

They were – briefly – visited by the Prime Minister. But he got a frosty welcome from local residents, some of whom angrily accused him of doing nothing to help them.

And they were warned it could be some time before they can return to their homes for good, with more heavy rain forecast. Tom Parmenter reports.

General Election: Boris Johnson says ‘end to uncertainty’ by election victory

Boris Johnson says there is a “pent up tidal wave of investment” that could come to Britain if Brexit is sorted.

“If we could get Brexit done, we could end their uncertainty,” he told car workers in the West Midlands.

The aim to solve Brexit with his withdrawal deal changed from ‘oven-ready to a recipe that needed water’, he joked.
