A volcanic eruption in New Zealand has killed at least five people.

Officials say 47 people were visiting White Island at the time the volcano eruputed and while 31 people are being treated in hospital, a further eight people are still unaccounted for.

New Zealand police say there is “no sign of life” remaning on the island and there isn’t expected to be any more surviviors.

The World Anti-Doping Agency has banned Russia from all major international sporting events, including the olympics and paraylmpics for four years.

The president of WADA said an investigation found that Moscow planted fake evidence and deleted files linked to positive doping tests that could have helped identify drug cheats.

Individual athletes will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag if they can prove they are not implicated by doping in Russia.

Police say the number of people who are unaccounted for following the eruption on White Island is in double figures – but the rescue operation has been suspended because it is too dangerous to search the area.
