The Metropolitan Police is to use facial recognition cameras operationally on the streets of London for the first time.

They’ll be switched on within a month, in an effort to find specific people suspected of serious or violent crimes.

But privacy campaigners question the system’s accuracy – and say the move is a “serious threat to civil liberties”.

A new bullying complaint has reportedly been filed against former House of Commons Speaker John Bercow, by his former most senior official.

The report was put together by the top clerk who served from 2011-2014 and handed to parliament’s standards commissioner on Thursday.

Mr Bercow denied the allegations and said they came at a “curious” time, following suggestions he might be in line for a peerage.
