Watch: Cape Seal Collides With Kayaker | National Geographic

If you’re ever out kayaking and encounter a group of seals, you may be tempted to paddle closer to get a better look. But that might not be the wisest move. One kayaker off the coast of Namibia got an unexpectedly close look when a hundred-pound cape fur seal leapt from the water and smacked right into her, as captured on this action cam footage. Fortunately, neither seal nor kayaker was badly hurt.

Newly Unveiled Dinosaur Fossil is Best Preserved Of Its Kind | National Geographic

See the remains of a nodosaur, the best preserved fossil of its kind ever found. Discovered by miners in Alberta, Canada, it’s a 110 million-year-old type of plant-eating armored dinosaur. The animal has two 20-inch-long spikes on its shoulders, and, in life, it was 18 feet long and nearly 3,000 pounds.

Watch: Buffalo Herd Charges Hyenas to Defend Calf | National Geographic

See a buffalo herd charge a pack of hyenas to defend a calf. Filmed in Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, the sickly calf is attacked by hyenas, and a bull buffalo runs in to defend it. A herd of about 50 buffalo soon follow and try to run off the hyenas. It’s unlikely that the calf survived the night.
