Why Four Cowboys Rode Wild Horses 3,000 Miles Across America (Part 1) | Nat Geo Live

In 2013, filmmaker Ben Master, three of his friends, and 16 wild mustangs journeyed across 3,000 miles of some of the most rugged territory in the American West. This audacious trek—to inspire adoptions of wild horses and burros—has since inspired Ben to help others on their own journeys. Hear Ben share inspiring stories from the road and watch clips from his documentary ‘Unbranded.’

Male seagulls have an unusual way of signaling they’re ready to mate; standing on the back of the female. Most male birds don’t have penises. Both females and males have an opening called a cloaca. They rub them together, and males transfer their sperm to the female. Seagulls are monogamous and will mate several times during one season.

Can You Tell a Monkey’s Mood From Its Face? | National Geographic

Can you tell if a monkey is going to bite you based on its facial expressions? Researchers at the University of Lincoln, UK, found that tourists frequently misread the emotions of wild macaques, and this misunderstanding can have dangerous consequences. Oftentimes tourists believed a monkey was “smiling” or “blowing them kisses” when the animal was in fact aggressive or in distress. The researchers also found that 2D images that were meant to demonstrate what the animals’ facial expressions mean were not very effective as an education tool. The study suggests that videos or presentations by expert guides would be more effective in teaching tourists about how best to read an animal’s emotion.
