Scientists spotted this one in San Juanico, Baja California Sur. They dwell underground and aren’t usually seen on the surface. They’re about 9 inches long and have front limbs perfectly suited for digging through soil.

The orcas chased their prey until it was fatigued and drowned. Then they consumed almost the entire whale, leaving only a dorsal fin behind. Orcas are apex predators that feed on both fish and other marine mammals. Scientists who observed the hunt said it was rare to see orcas take down a whale so close.

After becoming separated from its mother, the calf started following cars along a nearby road. The calf may have started shadowing the car since it was a large moving object, an instinct it follows in the herd. It even tried to suckle on one of the car’s tires. Eventually the calf made its way back to its mother.
