Racing 800 Miles in the Desert—in a VW Bug | National Geographic

The Baja 1000 is among the toughest and most dangerous off-road races in the world. Located on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, the course changes from year to year. In 2015, it was an 828-mile loop with a 33-hour time limit. All kinds of vehicles take on the challenge, from multimillion-dollar trophy trucks to stock1970s VW Beetles. The Desert Dingoes team have tried and failed to complete the course five times in their Bug—and this time was no different.
