The Kenya government destroyed more than 100 tons of elephant ivory in the largest burn of its kind ever, in the hopes of combating the illegal ivory trade and killing of elephants. The burn represented the tusks of more than 6,500 elephants killed, and also included more than a ton of rhino horns.

Hear the incredible recovery stories of six rhinos who were rescued from poachers in Black Bean Productions’ poignant short film. Caregivers at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) in South Africa recount the trauma several of the victims endured before arriving at the facility. Two of the animals were dehorned by poachers and had to undergo dozens of facial reconstruction surgeries. The other four were brought in after poachers killed their mothers. See how they are being cared for now, and meet one of their new companions, Lammie the lamb, who has helped the orphans bond during the rehab process.

Colorado firefighter Don Whittemore has battled some of the state’s fiercest forest fires over the past several decades. He and others in his profession are now increasingly responding to record-breaking blazes as a result of higher temperatures caused by climate change. Drier and disease-ridden forests have accelerated the scale and intensity of the flames, creating a volatile situation for those on the front lines of the fight. Production company The Story Group documents the experiences of Whittemore and other firefighters as they weigh the risks of combatting escalating infernos. “On a day-to-day basis, we’re being surprised, and in this business, surprise is what kills people,” says Whittemore.
