Many people want to help protect our oceans—but what about our lakes, streams, ponds, and rivers? Despite making up less than half a percent of the world’s total water supply, freshwater is the lifeblood of human civilizations and critical aquatic ecosystems. Fortunately for us, there is a diverse array of biota working hard to keep these vital waters clean and healthy. In this short film by Freshwaters Illustrated, dive into a busy tropical stream ecosystem and learn how shrimp, crabs, and other invertebrates are creating a nutrient-rich environment for wildlife to flourish and humans to enjoy.

A Series of Unfortunate Events | Netflix Kitchen: Baudelaire’s Flaming Mansion | Netflix

Oh look the Baudelaire’s house is edible. And on fire. How tragic. A Series of Unfortunate Events is now streaming on Netflix. You’re not going to want to watch.

Food Stylist: Ashley Holt

Chocolate House Recipe:

10 lbs white chocolate
Gold, bronze and silver luster dust
Gumpaste
Gingerbread cookie dough
Royal icing
Shredded coconut
Green food coloring
Black food coloring
Light brown sugar
Buttercream
Vanilla sugar wafers
Thick water color paper
Everclear
Square and rectangle silicone mold
Small square cookie cutter
Fondant/clay extruder
Piping bags
Real or artificial flowers
Airbrush
Lighter

Cut small squares from the gingerbread cookie dough and bake until well done. Once cool, stack the cookie squares with stiff royal icing. Let dry completely.

Make the water pipes by piping royal icing on a piece of parchment paper. One dry, carefully flip the dried royal icing pipes over and pipe over it again with more royal icing. Let dry completely and airbrush black.

Melt white chocolate and pour into 1/4″ into the silicone molds. Chill until completely solid and invert.
Assemble the chocolate squares with melted chocolate. You can use chocolate freeze spray to instantly harden the chocolate and help speed up this process.
Once your house is built, add the details with gumpaste and the luster dust.

Make a roof out of the water color paper.

Spread buttercream on the cake board and cover completely with green coconut. Create a drive way out of the light brown sugar. Add real or artificial flowers to the grounds.

Douse house in everclear and carefully light on fire.

With the ability to grow up to 18 feet long, the venomous king cobra can raise a third of its body and look a human in the eye. While that might sound impressive, what really makes these snakes king is their diet: other snakes.
