This Snake in a Toilet is a Bathroom Nightmare Come True | National Geographic

The chances of finding a snake in your toilet are very low, but unfortunately not zero. A rescue worker retrieved what an expert identifies as an oriental rat snake from a toilet in northeast Thailand. This species of snake is not a threat to humans, and the rescuers returned it to the wild the following day.

Footage shows a curious young female grizzly bear playing with a camera set afloat on a river in Knight Inlet, British Columbia, Canada. The idea was to film grizzly bears diving for fish without being disturbed by a human presence. The filmmaker mounted two GoPro cameras on top of a homemade flotation device. While some bears avoided the camera, one young female got close enough to get an aquatic selfie video.

Watching a volcano erupt sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity. However, if you live in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, volcanic eruptions are an almost hourly affair. Situated at the base of the highly active Santiaguito dome complex, Quetzaltenango is home to around 200,000 people who’ve somehow found a way to live next to what may be the world’s noisiest neighbor.

In this episode of Today I Learned, National Geographic explorer and volcanologist Stephanie Grocke explains what might be driving Santiaguito’s frequent eruptions.
