Why The Nintendo Famicom Disk System is Underrated
Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Sub_to_TheGamer
So, Nintendo used to release games on floppy disk. Back in the days of the NES – or rather, the Famicom – Nintendo decided to take a gamble on a method that would potentially allow for games that were simultaneously bigger than what cartridges could offer but also cheaper.
This was the Famicom Disk System (FDS). Released exclusively in Japan in 1986, this would be one of the oddest pieces of Nintendo hardware ever released. It would include massively popular titles such as Super Mario Bros. 2, the original Metroid, and even a variant of the original Super Mario Bros. that was based off a popular late night radio show.
The Famicom Disk System is weird. It’s retro, too! And it’s definitely worth diving into today.
The Gamer Presents the Mystery Game Files, a series focused on diving into a box of some of the strangest oddities from throughout gaming history! Today’s video: That Time Nintendo Released Games on Floppy Disks!

Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Godfather: Part III, director/screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola brings a definitive new edit and restoration of the final film in his epic Godfather trilogy—Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), now in his 60s, seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia)… but he may also be the spark that turns Michael’s hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. The film’s meticulously restored picture and sound, under the supervision of American Zoetrope and Paramount Pictures, includes a new beginning and ending, as well as changes to scenes, shots, and music cues. The resulting project reflects author Mario Puzo and Coppola’s original intentions of The Godfather: Part III, and delivers, in the words of Coppola, “a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II.”’
Featuring: Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Andy Garcia, Franc D’Ambrosio, Bridget Fonda, George Hamilton, Joe Mantegna, Talia Shire, Eli Wallach, Sofia Coppola, Raf Vallone
