What game doesn’t have a boss fight? Bosses have been emblematic of video games since the 80s and 90s, but as the industry has become more cinematic in recent years, ending the game on a defining moment or story point can be just as impactful as defeating a gargantuan boss. A good example of this would be The Last of Us as the final shot of the game is just someone’s face, but it was still a fitting ending to a game with such incredible storytelling. In this video, we won’t be solely focusing on final bosses, but all bosses.

If game developers are going to pit us against some all-powerful, all-seeing boss, it has to be done right. As the game builds you up to the boss fight, you’ve invested a good amount of time in the level learning methods of attack, tactical options and maybe even getting a new weapon. The boss should test the skills you have learned throughout the level. It shouldn’t be too easy, but it shouldn’t be too difficult. Developers should strive to find a happy medium. Sadly, there are some games that have such unfairly tough bosses, they completely ruin the game. The worst case of this is when you just breeze through the game without a single challenge and, all of a sudden, the final boss is impossible to defeat. We’re looking at you Sonic 2. Batman’s arch-nemesis The Joker is, without any shadow of a doubt, one of the most iconic and terrifying villains in all of fiction (in any media) – and he’s definitely the most recognisable villain from the world of comics. However, the versions of the twisted “Clown Prince of Gotham” you’ve probably seen or heard about in the main continuity of DC Comics and on the big screen in Hollywood movies aren’t the only versions of the character to have existed over the years. In this video, well run you through ten versions of the character that you might not be so familiar with. Those versions are; Cesar Romero’s very camp version from the 1960s Batman television series, the reality-warping Emperor Joker from the comic book story arc of the same name, the Jokers own daughter Duela Dent, the Amalgam Comics character Hyena (an amalgamation of Joker and the Marvel character Sabretooth), the Martha Wayne (Bruce Wayne’s mother) version of the character from the Flashpoint story arc, the future version of the Joker from the Batman Beyond animated series (who is actually Tim Drake, the former Robin), the Neo Joker (who is actually Harley Quinn) in the White Knight comic book title, the Laughing Man (a cyborg) from the Batman: Nosferatu comic book story, the gangster Bianca Steeplechase from DC’s Earth-37, and the Japanese Joker from the new Batman Ninja anime.
