After discontinuing the #OutbackXT about 10 years ago, #Subaru is reviving the #XT name for 2020 and under the hood, you’ll find the most powerful #turbocharged engine in the #Outback ever. Borrowed from the Ascent, this 2.4L boxer 4-cylinder offers up 260 HP and 277 lb-ft of torque in a car that is about 400 pounds lighter over the Ascent. Towing capacity improves to 3,500 pounds and fuel economy also gets a much needed boost over the old H-6 and 2008 Outback XT Limited to 23/30 MPG. Along with the new Subaru Global Platform, the 2020 Outback is the safest, stiffest, and most tech forward Outback the company has ever made. It should continue to be the best-selling model in the Subaru portfolio when it goes on sale in August 2019.

Volkswagen came onto the hot hatch scene a bit sooner than Honda but as the performance needle continues to move further up the ladder it has forced both companies to offer the most potent version of each economy hatchback. Here in America, we’ve had the #GolfR for nearly a decade while Honda dragged their feet until 2017 when the hottest Civic came to market in the form of the #CivicTypeR. Both #HotHatch offer 2.0L #Turbocharged engines with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. The #Volkswagen offers #4Motion AWD while the #Honda is only FWD. While the #TypeR looks a bit too over the top, some would criticize the #VWGolfR for looking too plain. Today, we find out which one is actually the best.
