The politics of fiction | Elif Shafak

Listening to stories widens the imagination; telling them lets us leap over cultural walls, embrace different experiences, feel what others feel. Elif Shafak builds on this simple idea to argue that fiction can overcome identity politics.

When ideas have sex | Matt Ridley

http://www.ted.com At TEDGlobal 2010, author Matt Ridley shows how, throughout history, the engine of human progress has been the meeting and mating of ideas to make new ideas. It’s not important how clever individuals are, he says; what really matters is how smart the collective brain is.

Evolution of Game Boy

While filming a video recently I realized I had way too many clips that I wasn’t going to use so I decided instead of letting them go to waste I would create this little video. It’s not meant to be all that serious, just a short little video for the fun of it.

D3Live: iPhone 4 Press Conference

In this special episode of D3Live I give an overview of the recent iPhone 4 press conference where Steve Jobs took the stage to discuss the iPhone 4 reception issues (aka the ‘death grip’). For the most part he admitted there was a problem but that it is one that other smartphones have and that the recent iOS 4.0.1 update should help. In addition he announced that starting next week and running through September 30th Apple will be giving away free Bumper cases as well as some select third party cases to iPhone 4 owners. If you have already bought a Bumper you also will be able to get a refund so that’s certainly good news. It’s not a perfect solution but having a case on the phone should help considerably.

D3Live is a weekly show I do live every Saturday at 3PM Eastern time live on Ustream. If you are interested in asking me questions for the video or just watching the show live keep an eye out as I will post a video here on YouTube before I begin. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/duncan33303

State of Jailbreak: iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone and 3.2.1 for iPad

Twitter: http://twitter.com/duncan33303

Site: http://stateofjailbreak.com

In this video I talk about the current State of Jailbreak. Apple has just released iOS 4.0.1 for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. It is a very small change from 4.0 as it only consists of the updated signal bars nevertheless as always you will lose your jailbreak if you update so I recommend holding off for now.

iOS 3.2.1 for the iPad also was released today. It contains a fix for the Wi-Fi issues as well as some general bug fixes but it also shuts down the exploit Spirit uses to jailbreak. If you have jailbroken your iPad I highly recommend to not upgrade to 3.2.1 as it may be a while until there is a working jailbreak on iOS 3.2.1.

Lastly I discuss the jailbreaking situation on iOS 4.1 beta for the iPhone and iPod touch that was released yesterday. At first glance it seems like 4.1 won’t be any trouble to jailbreak as you can even use redsn0w 0.9.5 to jailbreak it however there likely will be changes between now and the final release.

Breaking: iOS 4.1 and iPhone 4 Press Conference

I will be covering the iPhone 4 press conference live on Friday, July 16th at 10AM Pacific Time.

How to back up your SHSH blobs: http://bit.ly/apyJvH

In this video I briefly discuss the upcoming iOS 4.1 update for the iPhone and iPod touch and how you can ensure you will be able to jailbreak with Spirit once it is released. I also talk about the just announced iPhone 4 press conference and what will it will be about. Perhaps free bumpers? Or a redesigned iPhone 4? Who knows but feel free to watch me live on Ustream where I will keep you updated about what Apple has in store.

State of Jailbreak: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G on iOS 4.0

Twitter: http://twitter.com/duncan33303

Site: http://stateofjailbreak.com

In this video I discuss what exactly is going on with jailbreaking on iOS 4. There is a lot of confusion about what devices can and can’t be jailbroken right now on iOS 4 so here I break it down for you:

redsn0w 0.9.5 will jailbreak the iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G MB model running on iOS 4.0 GM or Gold Master firmware.

sn0wbreeze 1.7 will jailbreak the iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2G MB model and the iPhone 3GS old bootrom running on standard iOS 4.0 firmware.

If you have an iPhone 3GS new bootrom, iPod touch 2G MC model, iPod touch 3G or iPhone 4 there isn’t a standard jailbreak out for you yet. However don’t worry as another jailbreak called Spirit is nearly done and will allow you to jailbreak any iPhone or iPod on iOS 4.

There is also an unlock for the iPhone 4 that will be coming around the time Spirit is released. However there is no word on when either will be out. As soon as Spirit is released however I will do a full tutorial.
