Think of the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 as the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1. Designed by Gordon Murray – creator of the F1, designer of championship-winning F1 cars for Brabham and McLaren – the T.50 is a new analogue supercar.

Its construction is carbon fibre. It has three seats, with the driver’s seat in the middle. Behind that is a 654bhp (663hp) 3.9-litre V12. There is no 0-60mph time or top speed quoted as yet, because that emphatically isn’t what this car is about, Murray tells Autocar, here.

Instead, he says, it’s about the driving experience: which is why it weighs just 986kg, why Cosworth has co-operated on a brand new naturally aspirated engine and why it drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The T.50 will cost £2.36m plus taxes when it goes into full production at the start of 2022. Murray tells us all about this car, how it’s constructed, and how some of its performance comes from a fan situated at the back of the car…

Ah, the BMW M2. The great small coupe from BMW. First there was the standard M2, then came the M2 Competition and now, in the last few months of its production life, there is this: the 2020 M2 CS.

It’s rather expensive, at £75,000, but it should also prove rather good. It has more power than either the M2 or the M2 Competition – some 444bhp, in fact, which is good for 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds dead and a top speed of 174 mph.

It is finer, sharper, keener – though no lighter than standard – and could just give the top spec Porsche 718 Cayman a good scrap.

The 2020 Polestar 2 is Polestar’s first full battery electric vehicle. It follows the (imaginatively named) Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid, but is a rather more accessible and practical saloon (or sedan, depending on where you live prefer).

The 2 costs around £46,000 in the UK, and its two motors give it a total of 402bhp – so it’s able to take on fast versions of the Tesla Model 3. A 0-62mph time of just 4.7sec means it has acceleration to spare. And its range is a very competitive 292 miles.

We loved the Polestar 1, and there are similar nerdy, geeky bits in the Polestar 2’s suspension as well. But how will it stack up against its 2020 EV competitors like the Tesla Model 3, or even Audi’s e-tron? Join Autocar’s Matt Saunders as he finds out.

The Ferrari F8 Spider is the open-topped variant of Ferrari’s latest mid-engined V8 supercar – a cara named after its engine – the F8 Tributo.

The 3.9-litre twin turbocharged V8 that arrived in the Ferrari 488 GTB has won a lot of awards, you see. So when they introduced that car’s replacement, they named the car after it.

And then, as is Ferrari’s way, it took the roof off to make a Spider, and this is it.

The F8 Spider still has that 3.9-litre V8, making 710bhp and 568lb ft of torque, which is good enough to make it go from 0-60mph in 2.9sec and onto a top speed of 211mph. Which should be plenty, even though this car carries a 70kg penalty over the coupe.
