London’s first female fire chief Dany Cotton retires

Firefighters have formed a guard of honour for London’s first female fire chief, who has retired after 32 years of service.

London Fire Brigade commissioner Dany Cotton had been due to retire in April 2020, but stepped down earlier than expected in the wake of criticism over the Grenfell Tower fire.

Five people sentenced to death over Khashoggi murder

Five people have been sentenced to death over the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the country’s public prosecutor says.

Three more have been given jail terms totalling 24 years after the murder inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018.

Prince Charles visits flood-hit village of Fishlake

The Prince of Wales has visited a village in South Yorkshire to meet residents affected by last month’s flooding.

The royal was also greeted by firefighters and members of the armed forces in Fishlake, near Doncaster, where a month’s worth of rain fell in 24 hours.

During the visit, he was asked about the health of his father Prince Philip, who is currently in hospital, and Prince Charles answered that he is “being looked after very well”.
