SpaceX blows up rocket to test astronaut escape system

SpaceX has blown up a rocket to test an astronaut escape system as part of the company’s final trial before it can fly manned missions.

A Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral a day later than originally scheduled due to bad weather – and was attached to a Dragon crew capsule containing two mannequins.

SpaceX now hopes its next mission flying the Dragon capsule will have astronauts inside. That would mark the first time since 2011 that NASA astronauts have launched from the US after the end of the space shuttle programme.

PM to raise issue of US personnel driving with American officials

Boris Johnson says he will raise the issue of the driving standards of US personnel with American officials after drivers were seen on the wrong side of the road.

Speaking ahead of a conference in Berlin, the Prime Minister said: “We’re certainly raising all those issues – about the driving habits of US personnel at the base – and we’re continuing to work for justice for Harry Dunn and for his family.”

Teenager Harry Dunn died in a head-on crash with a car on 27 August last year near to RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire.

The Duchess of Sussex’s father has accused Meghan of ‘cheapening the royals’ as she and her husband prepare to step back from their duties.

Thomas Markle’s relationship with Meghan has been fraught for several years and he did not attend her wedding to Prince Harry due to ill health.
