2016 Nissan Maxima SR – Redline: Review

As the flagship sedan in the Nissan family, the sleek 2016 Maxima has some pretty high expectations for setting the standard within the lineup. This all-new version starts off on the right track with a potent 300 horsepower V6, a bold design, and luxurious cabin furnishings. Just keep in mind, this may or may not be the 4-door sports car that Nissan is promising.

WARNING: Styrofoam crafting involves high temperature cutting wires which can burn skin, and release small quantities of toxic gasses from the styrofoam itself. Metal casting should only be attempted under adult supervision, by those skilled in the process, and who understand the risks. Have fun, but always think ahead, and remember that any project you try is at YOUR OWN RISK.

Project History & More Info:

This project was born after I ran into an awesome design for a wooden Rubber Band Gun designed by “RBGuns” a couple of years ago. (http://bit.ly/IBM9RubberBandGun)

I had recently seen a “lost foam casting” tutorial by “The Art of Weapons” http://bit.ly/IBRamboneSlingshot) that inspired me to try it myself, but rather than make a slingshot, I wanted to try something a little different.

I tried styrofoam-casting a gun from the Rbguns M9 template, but the metal didn’t flow properly in the sand, and it failed on each attempt. And each attempt was a lot of work.

I soon realized the foam gun needed to be one solid piece, so I spent a couple of days redesigning it in photoshop, using the RBguns design for inspiration, then tweaking it with minor adjustments until I could get a successful cast.

I expanded the trigger guard nearly twice as large as the original was, because that was the biggest problem area for each of the aluminum casts because the metal would stop flowing and wouldn’t complete the model.

This final design has served me well, and looks really great in styrofoam by itself! So there’s no need to cast into metal if you don’t want to.

I’ve had requests for the template, and how I made the gun since the day I first released the metal casting video, so in response to popular request, I’m happy to give you this tutorial, and template for free.

A picture I saw on a Google search nearly 2 years ago. I was looking for ideas for a small sword I could make out of styrofoam and found this: (http://bit.ly/IBWikiMasterSword)

After I melted my first batch of soda cans into liquid aluminum, the first thing I though of making was a sai, like Rafael from the Ninja Turtles.

I didn’t have a mold, but I remembered seeing a technique for “lost foam casting” where something could be made out of styrofoam and buried in sand, then hot molten metal poured in overtop to burn away the foam, and take the shape of the object.

I tried cutting the styrofoam with a knife, but it just made a mess, and the sai looked terrible. So I made a hot wire “Styro-Slicer” so I could cut foam cleaner. (http://bit.ly/TheStyroSlicer)

With the Styro-Slicer complete, I quickly traced out the shape of a sword freehand, and tried casting it, and it turned out perfect! Exactly as the foam looked, and I was amazed.

So I wondered if I could make a sword that looked better and more professional.

I did a Google image search for “sword template”, and came across a picture of a playful “Master Sword” that was the perfect size for a small cosplay type sword.

I printed out the shape, glued it to some styrofoam, and was really glad to see I could trace the paper with the hot wire foam cutter, to get a really clean and professional looking piece.

The first prototype I made wasn’t originally intended to be made into a video, but made a cameo appearance at the end of my first styrofoam casting video (http://bit.ly/StyrofoamCasting)

Since then I’ve wanted to make a version that was 3D and looked awesome, but it’s taken a lot of time figure out how I wanted it to look.

I had my friend Ritchie from Sonic Dad make a vector of the image so I could try scaling it for templates, which he very kindly did for me. But unfortunately I didn’t end up using it because I needed to create different layers to make the sword 3D.

I spent 3 days in photoshop creating different designs, layers, and template prototypes, until I finally came up with a design I liked.

From there I tested different versions of the template on foam, so I could understand how many layers were needed to get a clean cast. (When the blade was only 1 layer thin, the metal wouldn’t penetrate all the way down). I made and cast over 12 swords to get a feel for what worked best, and what didn’t. And this design is the result of all that experimenting and prototyping.

I’m really happy with how these turned out, and super excited about the beveled blade, which was a cool feature of the Styro-Slicer I put together.

They look good in styrofoam, and can easily be converted to aluminum, or in this case, brass.

2016 Honda Civic Coupe – Redline: Review

With the compact coupe market dwindling, Honda [pretty much] has the segment all to itself and with the latest Civic Coupe now offering the same sleek style, turbo power, and high tech features as the sleek new sedan introduced a few months ago, it looks as if Honda will continue to hold its top dog status in a shrinking segment.

*Due to unforeseen circumstances during filming, this video had to be edited in below HD quality. We apologize in advance as there was very little time to shoot the 2016 Civic Coupe during the media preview, but we greatly appreciate your understanding and we have made every effort to ensure all other videos are back up to the quality you guys expect from us*

A commercial “bath bomb” from a hotel my wife took me to, as part of a birthday getaway in 2014.

WARNING: Use of this product typically induce feelings of love, relaxation, and appreciation, in the user. Side effects may include hugs, kisses, and in some cases, pregnancy. Have fun, but always think ahead, and remember that any project you try is at YOUR OWN RISK.

Project History & More Info:

A little over 2 years ago, my wife decided that for my birthday gift she wanted to take me out to spend the night at a very romantic, but very old, hotel.

As we were checking in, the attendant asked us if we’d like to purchase a “bath bomb” to enhance our experience.

I had never heard of a “bath bomb” before, but naturally my ears perked up, and of course I was interested in anything ending with the word “bomb”.

The instructions said to simply drop it in the bath water, so we did, and to my amazement, it immediately started fizzing and bubbling, and making the room smell amazing. The water got softer, and our bath felt like luxury and pure bliss.

I decided right then and there (in the bath tub) that I was going to figure out how to make one of these amazing devices, and share it with the world.

I put the idea on the shelf for awhile to focus on other projects, but my interest was reawakened one night as my family and I were watching a YouTube channel called “What’s Up Moms”. They had a cool bath bomb video (http://bit.ly/WUMBathbombs) that inspired me to try again.

I followed Brooke’s instructions perfectly, changing only the color and the amount of water slightly, and to my great satisfaction, this recipe worked perfectly! ..which meant my wife and I enjoyed another bath bomb experience that night.

With Valentines Day quickly approaching, my goal was to come up with a cool project idea that anyone could share with their partner, and be proud of. I wanted a project that was “King of Random Style”, but still gentle and elegant enough to make a woman happy, and genuinely excited about her gift as well.

I spent weeks experimenting with different ideas, colors, and molds, and developed ideas ranging from black Bob-ombs and round bath bombs, to sticks of TNT.

Ultimately I settled on a red/pink stick of dynamite, because it looks cool, and turns the water pink as it diffuses.

My wife guided me in my choices of essential oils, based on what she prefers, so the only thing left for me to figure out was how to make the wick useful.

The idea of tying a secret gift, like jewelry, to the end of the string then packing it into the bath bomb during production came to me as I was nearing the end of my prototyping.

This was too perfect! Not only was the presentation already awesome, and the bath stimulating, impressive, and relaxing, but now to top it all of there was a piece of jewelry inside as well!

My wife loved the idea so much we immediately got on Amazon and picked out a ring she adored, so I could pack it into her “surprise” while filming the video 🙂

It turns out a lot of people have made bath bombs, and some even made videos as well, so I had a good place to start. But as I searched the internet and experimented with different recipes I wasn’t really happy with the results.

I have never taken so many baths in my life as I have in the last 2 weeks prototyping and testing TNT bath bombs, and loved everyone. ..except for the ones with the black food coloring.

I hope you try this project yourself, and drop the “Love Bomb” this Valentines Day, on your special someone.
