Easter Eggs, in video games, are typically a welcome surprise for gamers. The entire point is to either recognize a facet of pop culture or to reward hardcore gamers for playing the game so thoroughly. Everyone loves discovering Easter Eggs in any video game that they’re playing because, oftentimes, it’s like a secret between the game developers and the gamer. Most Easter Eggs are fairly harmless. They’re a recreation of a popular meme or movie scene. They can be a nod to an older title in the same franchise or just a funny joke that most players will get once they run across it.

Some Easter Eggs, however, are a little more unsettling than the average. Perhaps, it’s the intent of the game developer to scare their fans or, at least, creep them out just a little bit. Most of these Easter Eggs involve ghosts, strange messages, or just various horror elements that gamers did not expect especially if it’s a game intended for children. Not that a video game can actually harm players, right?(Lavender Town Syndrome, anyone?)Nevertheless, it can be a bit unsettling to run across a creepy Easter Egg in a game like Pokemon or Animal Crossing.

Occasionally, even the game developer will deny adding any such Easter Egg to the game itself which only makes things even more creepy. While they’re probably adding these creepy Easter Eggs for fun, it’s still terrifying that they’d deny ever doing such a thing! Here are the Top 5 Creepiest Video Game Easter Eggs Ever!
