There are many Hollywood movies that have been adapted from anime films and manga. Although, a lot of Hollywood directors deny the similarities between them.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World draws some inspiration from Naruto at the end of the movie when Gideon Graves uses hand signs to summon his sword. Darren Aronofsky gained the rights to Perfect Blue in 2000 and his 2010 movie Black Swan has many similarities to it even though he has denied it. Hugh Jackman’s movie Van Helsing drew a lot of its inspiration from novels and anime movies, Vampire Hunter D. Nadia: The Secret of the Blue Water has many similarities to Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Dark City gained a lot of its inspiration from the renowned 80’s anime, Akira. Neon Genesis Evangelion and Pacific Rim both have humans who pilot robots to save the earth from giant monsters. The writers and directors of Pacific Rim claim to have never seen the Japanese anime but the similarities are there. Lots of people think Avatar got a lot of inspiration from Pocahontas but it was actually from Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke. Ghost in the Shell was the main pitch for the Wachowski brother’s movie, The Matrix. Christopher Nolan claims he gained inspiration for Inception from the anime film Paprika which both center around dreams. There is a lot of controversy surround Disney’s The Lion King as it draws a lot of comparisons to the Japanese cartoon, Kimba: The White Lion although Disney has denied this.
