8 COPYCAT ANIME. Each anime genre, from harem to magical girl, has its own set of cliché tropes. But sometimes an anime series gets a little too eager to ride on the coattails of another popular series, and outright rips it off.

Is anything ever truly original? Probably not. But some anime copy others more blatantly than others. And we’re not talking about genre tropes, like that every magical girl anime has to have a transformation sequence and a love interest, or that every harem anime has to have a tsundere, a yandere, an oneesama, etc., though tropes definitely do come into play here.

It’s the entire premise of Sword Art Online – gamers get sucked into an MMORPG, can’t log out, and now live in the game-world – being copied by Log Horizon. It’s the dual buns, rose and wing imagery, and the transformation sequence choreography of Sailor Moon being copied by Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. It’s Fushigi Yuugi’s normal-girl-becomes-priestess plot, seven warriors with marks on their bodies, and character designs being copied by Harukanaru Toki no Naka de. Even the Saw and Harry Potter franchises aren’t immune to anime knockoffs.

Is a rip-off of a series automatically bad? That’s for the viewers to decide. In fact, many rip-off series are considered better than the originals. It ultimately comes down to what you value in your stories. Do you like your anime darker, or do you prefer it more comedic? Do you like romance-driven stories, or would you rather that be a sub-plot? Even something as arbitrary as background music or color palate can make or break an anime for some. But personal preferences aside, it’s always fun to call out the blatant similarities between shows, so here’s 8 of them.

Virtually within any anime series you sit down to watch, there are godlike characters, meager characters, but what about the ones in between? The ones that look weak but are in fact strong, or the ones that are strong but are barely given any screentime? Well, in this ScreenRant video we will be diving into the underrated, the unappreciated, and the underhyped main and supporting characters alike that deserve a lot more attention, and are a lot more powerful than you may have realized!

For those who have watched JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure may know about how overpowered the abilities called “stands” are, but Giorno Giovanna has one of the most unique ones, called Gold Experience Requiem, which arguably makes him one of the strongest characters within the franchise. Lucy from Elfen Lied might look cute and innocent, but don’t let that demeanor fool you, since she might just slice you up! Nagisa from Assassination Classroom does look scrawny and quite petite, but he has overwhelmed even the most beefy-looking dudes, despite being just a middle schooler!

When facing off against space emperors and aliens with evil intentions, it may get quite difficult for a simple human to do anything, right? Well, that’s not what Krillin showed once he trained to become far stronger than ever before. While Boros, the perfect being who sought out strong opponents, was defeated by the caped baldy, Saitama. There are many other characters that also fit the criteria of being underrated, yet possessing quite interesting abilities to tip the scales in their favor!

Fox’s wonderful Deadpool 2 movie is currently wowing audiences around the world with its irreverent humour, awesome action and graphic gore – the latter of which… kind of makes it unsuitable for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if we’re being honest.

However, wouldn’t it actually be cool if the Merc with a Mouth was to appear in the MCU?! It is, after all, the flagship comic book movie franchise – and Deadpool is undoubtedly one of Marvel’s flagship characters.

We think it would be amazing – and this video will theorise how that might actually happen. Be warned though – it contains MCU and Deadpool 2 spoilers – so don’t watch the video OR read this text any further if you don’t want to know what happens in either franchise.

Could Deadpool’s ability to speak to the audience mean he can simply communicate and venture to other worlds under his own power? Could the time-travel device belonging to Cable in Deadpool 2 actually take Deadpool to the MCU (it did take him to the “real world” after all)? Could the Infinity Gauntlet Thanos used to wipe out half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War actually bring Deadpool to the franchise? Could a reality-warping character like the Phoenix or Scarlet Witch cause Deadpool to switch franchises? And could a story like Secret Wars or Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe be adapted, which would allow the Merc with a Mouth to cross over?
