This Small Satellite Could Predict the Next Hurricane | Short Film Showcase

For the past several decades, we’ve relied on massive, billion-dollar satellites to collect data. Aerospace company Spire is revolutionizing the industry with their CubeSat satellite design. Each device is about the size of a shoe box and can collect and transmit weather data 10,000 times a day—six times more frequently than older models. Spire’s satellites could be key to finally reining in the stubbornly unpredictable world of weather forecasting, giving us a better idea of when to pack an umbrella and even warning the world’s most vulnerable populations of an impending natural disaster. Production company Freethink documents the work of Spire in this episode from the series The New Space Race.
