2001: A Space Odyssey – What’s the Difference?

Before the first strains of Richard Strauss’ “Also Sprach Zarathustra” echoed in movie theaters (and the public consciousness for decades to come), 2001: A Space Odyssey was a novel by Arthur C. Clarke. Stanley Kubrick made a lot of adjustments in his adaptation, and we’ll give you the full tour! Subscribe: http://goo.gl/9AGRm

2001: A Space Odyssey is a landmark in visual and cinematic storytelling, but it was a book first or not first… or simultaneously? We’re not sure. So, how did the story get from the stage to the screen? There were a lot of changes involved. So many changes, in fact, that we had to split this video into two! Come back in two weeks for the rest of the differences!

Have you read 2001: A Space Odyssey, or Arthur C. Clarke’s other works? What do you think of the changes Kubrick made in his adaptation? Did we leave anything out of part 1 that you hope to see in Part 2? What’s your favorite Stanley Kubrick movie?

What other works would you like to see us explore on What’s The Difference?

Two James Taylors On A Seesaw

Two James Taylors sing “Two James Taylors On A Seesaw.”

LYRICS:

You go up, while I go down

And this ol’ world keeps spinnin’ round

I get short while you get tall

We’re just two James Taylors on a seesaw

I’m so high I touch the clouds

You’re so low you touch the ground

From up here the world seems small

We’re just two James Taylors on a seesaw

What goes up, must come down, too

The seesaw changes our point of view,

I will see, what you just saw,

We’re just two James Taylors on a seesaw

I go up and I say “Weee,”

And “we” is also you and me,

Waving as we pass on by…

Don’t jump off, don’t jump off, don’t jump off…

If you hurt me, you’ll just hurt yourself

Where I’ve been, the things I see

It’s almost weird looking down at me

I am you, and you are me,

I guess that’s how it’ll always be,

Between us, we’ve seen it all

We’re just two James Taylors on a seesaw.
