وفقاً لخبراء الاقتصاد، الدول تعتبر غنية إذا كان مواطنيها يكسبون ما يكفي لتأمين جميع احتياجاتهم. ويأتي تصنيف أغنى ١٠ دول في العالم لهذا العام على أساس نصيب الفرد من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي، مع قيمة الناتج المحلي الإجمالي المحسوبة بالدولار الأمريكي.
بالإضافة لذلك أخذ بالاعتبار العديد من الجوانب في الترتيب مثل قيمة الإنتاج و قيمة الإنفاق وقيمة الدخل. وقد نتفاجأ بوجود العديد من الدول ضمن هذا التصنيف فمنها من حافظ على ترتيبه ومنها من تراجع ومنها من دخل القائمة من جديد.
وتجدر الإشارة إلي أن الأرقام السابقة لا تعني ما يحصل عليه الفرد كمرتب سنوي في هذه الدول. بل تعني مقدار نصيبه من قيمة السلع والخدمات التي تقدمها الدولة التي يعيش فيها فيما لو تم تقسيمها على كل السكان.

قائمة شاملة على أكبر 10 أغنى البلدان في العالم لعام 2014 والتي حللت من قبل المؤسسات الاقتصادية العالمية والاقتصاد بشكل عام. فالوضع الاقتصادي هو أحد المحددات الرئيسية عوامل ثرائها. بالإضافة لذلك اقتصاد هذه الدول يبقى ثابت أو يتحسن بشكل تدريجي، وبالتالي أدى إلى تنحسين مستوى المعيشة لدى المواطنين
