يعد الفيديو المرفوع من قبل جاود كريم بعنوان (أنا في حديقة الحيوان) (بالإنجليزية:Me at the zoo)، يعد أول فيديو يتم رفعه على موقع اليوتيوب، وكان بتاريخ 23 إبريل 2005,و تبلغ مدته 18 ثانية

تأسس موقع يوتيوب عن طريق تشاد هرلي، وستيف تشن، وجاود كريم، وهم موظفون سابقون في شركة PayPal. قبل ذلك درس هرلي التصميم في جامعة إنديانا بولاية بنسيلفينيا، بينما درس تشن وكريم علوم الحاسوب في جامعة إيلينوي. أصبح النطاق YouTube.com نشطاً في 15 فبراير 2005، ومن ثم تم العمل على تصميم الموقع لبضع أشهر. افتتح الموقع كتجربة في مايو 2005، وافتتح رسمياً بعد ستة أشهر.
