COPPER: A New York Cop Drama set in 1864

In this exclusive interview about the making of BBC America’s all new original series COPPER, “a cop show set in New York during the Civil War,” get up close and personal with Academy Award® Winner Barry Levinson and Emmy® Award Winner Tom Fontana.

Go inside the creation of the 1860s cop drama with the Executive Producers, and discover their inspiration for the show.

Says Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man), “I think the idea of doing a period piece is really exciting because you’re now looking at New York City a 140 some-odd years ago… It was a messy, confusing time.”

Agreed Tom Fontana (Homicide: Life on the Streets, Oz), “We’re going to very accurately portray the period – but it’s very, very reflective of the times we live in now.”

COPPER is a gripping crime series set in 1860s New York City, and centers on Kevin Corcoran, an intense, rugged Irish-immigrant cop working the city’s notorious Five Points neighborhood. Corcoran is struggling to maintain his moral compass in a turbulent world while on an emotional and relentless quest to learn the truth about the disappearance of his wife and the death of his daughter.

COPPER stars Tom Weston-Jones (MI-5) and Franka Potente (The Bourne Supremacy, Run Lola Run). The series is created by Fontana and Academy Award®-nominee Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Southland)
