A Trip Through the Light Fantastic

Dr. Frank Summers, Space Telescope Science Institute
A Trip Through the Light Fantastic

One of the great advances of twentieth century astronomy was the expansion from visible light observations to the detection and analysis of cosmic objects at diverse wavelengths of light. We now study the universe across all the bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. Much of this growth was enabled by the space age, which carried telescopes above the interference and absorption of Earth’s atmosphere. Dr. Summers will survey the regions of light, ways that we normally encounter them, as well as the observations, insights, and implications from telescopic observations. There truly is more to the universe than meets the eye.
