Drag may not be a contact sport, but these queens are not afraid to put their bodies on the line.
If you’ve ever been to a drag show, you know gender-bending is just one aspect of the performance. Elaborate lip-syncing plays a pivotal role during a queen’s set on stage, and throughout these performances, one particular dance move has been known to slay the stage.
It’s called a “death drop,” and it’s no small feat.
We wanted to better understand this show-stopping maneuver, so we went to RuPaul’s DragCon in NYC to ask some of our favorite queens if they could teach us how to master it. Behold: the infamous death drop.

When Muli, a wild tiger in Sumatra, is rescued by the Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation, she brings together scientists, conservationists and poachers in this story of survival. Muli is one of 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the world. The entire tiger population is on the brink of extinction because of poachers who sell their skins and bones, and the illegal market which consumes them.
Every school child across the globe knows the tiger, and yet we are causing the most iconic animal in the world to go extinct. We need tigers for a healthy stable world for us and future generations.
Panthera is on the front lines, standing between poachers and tigers. In partnerships on the ground with local governments, law enforcement, and NGOs, they are focused on anti-poaching efforts to ensure that we will have wild tigers forever.
