Should you buy a Nintendo DS in 2020? Yes! It’s fun. It’s got a huge library of games, plus all the Game Boy Advance games it can play, it’s got 8 to 12 hours of battery life, trumping many handheld devices of the time as well as right now, and it has two screens. Okay, by 2020 standards, where we have smartphones like the iPhone 12 Pro Max which has 12 megapixels and all kinds of devices which have two screens, but in 2004, yeah, that was a big deal. One of those screens was a touch screen, which was also quite impressive for a handheld console. Need we say more?
What’s that – “yes”? Okay – let’s talk about games. Like all Nintendo consoles, it has great platform games. The New Super Mario Bros. is still a pretty fun remake of the NES original. Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, is pretty neat and fun and artistic in a Being John Malkovich kind of way. Nintendogs is great if you love dogs but hate responsibility as you can turn it off and turn it on sixteen years later to pet your same golden retriever.
One of this machines’ best features in this day and age is it’s inexpensive. You could pay anywhere from $10 to $50 for one in 2020, and in an age where consoles are being sold for $499US and more, maybe a few cheap thrills are all we need for Christmas.

What is a weapon in the Information Age? From microscopic “smart dust” tracking devices to DNA-tracing tech and advanced facial recognition software, journalist Sharon Weinberger leads a hair-raising tour through the global, unregulated bazaar of privatized mass surveillance. To rein in this growing, multibillion-dollar marketplace that often caters to customers with nefarious intents, Weinberger believes the first step is for governments to classify surveillance tools as dangerous and powerful weapons.
