If you think America has everything, you’ve clearly never been to Japan. The gaming Mecca has keyboards, controllers, and peripherals the likes of which you’ve never seen before. But we have. And we want to share our findings with you, because sharing is caring.
America has BIG. But sometimes, size isn’t everything. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the world of difference. To be clear, we’re talking about certain teenie tiny handheld gaming devices: the Game Gear Micro and the Game Boy Pocket. These little things fly under the radar, which is their appeal.
We’ve got quite a few novelty controllers on this list. Hey, some of us need to game with a little flair. A controller in the shape of the weirdest looking Dragon Quest character out there, Slime, tops our list. It’s actually on its third generation in Japan – I mean, do they know something we don’t?
And finally, a 360 degree panoramic VR helmet that makes your head look like a television. Something out of a 60s sci-fi flick, this bizarro design might make a comeback in a sleeker form in the years to come. And when it does, we’ll look back and smile upon this moment.

In general, Sony has been one of the most innovative companies in the world for many years now and that is exactly the case in terms of gaming. Many companies have come and gone in the gaming world, but only 3 remain: Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. They’ve all been on top at different times, but right now, we’re in the era of the Sony PlayStation. So how did we get here and what did Sony do to change gaming forever?
It all started in 1995 with the original PlayStation console. Not only was it the first commercially successful disc-based console, but its controller was also the first one to feature dual analog sticks and vibration feedback. The PlayStation 2 had a futuristic design and was the first all-in-one console since it also doubled as a DVD player. The PlayStation 3 took a page out of the PS2’s book and brought Blu-Ray to the mainstream. The PlayStation 4 really shook things up with features like Remote Play and the literally out of this world PlayStation VR. The PlayStation 5 improves on all of these incredible features. Oh, and how can I forget PS Plus, which has blessed us with free games every month for over 10 years and counting.
There’s more to how Sony changed the gaming world than just that so enjoy the video, let me know what you think is the most innovative thing Sony has done in the comments section below and don’t forget to subscribe to TheGamer for more gaming tech content.

Oh, the Nintendo 64. It’s the console I probably have the fondest memories of since it was the first home console I’ve ever played. I remember getting up at 8am, having breakfast and then gaming until supper time, or until my parents literally forced me to stop playing. Those were the good ol’ days where I didn’t have a care in the world. Now, I have to worry about adult stuff like mortgage payments and going to work. It makes me wish I could go back in time to when all I had to worry about was how much time I’d be able to spend gaming each day.
If you’re like me and reminiscing about the Nintendo 64, then maybe you’re considering actually buying the console. I still own my N64, but if you want one, go get one! You definitely won’t regret it. For starters, it’s not very expensive to get a grey N64. If you want a special edition N64, like the blue and yellow Pikachu edition, then you’re going to need to shell out a bit more money, but you’ve got a collector’s item at that point. The games are the biggest selling point of the console since almost every single one of them is great.
There’s more reasons than just those to get a Nintendo 64 so enjoy the video, let me know whether or not you’re thinking of buying an N64 in 2021 in the comments section below and don’t forget to subscribe to TheGamer for more gaming tech content.
