How did Nintendo break the mold? How did a company that made Cards 140 years learn to dominate in the console market without officially participating in the very public and resource sapping console wars? We believe it is strategy, vision, and patience.
Nintendo has been in business long enough to know its identity. When you truly know yourself, then you can look for the appropriate mate. In life, like in business, you attract what you are. And what Nintendo is is a fun loving machine. We at The Gamer couldn’t tell you how many TERAFLOPS the Switch has, if any, and if you’re concerned about that kind of thing, you probably wouldn’t be looking in Nintendo’s direction at playtime. And the feeling would be mutual.
Nintendo is like a group of kids – just looking for a good time. And it provides. It finds ways to entertain, innovate and (sometimes) educate. It’s not necessarily looking to impress or wow you with numbers, but with an overall experience. Maybe inventing and selling Hanafuda cards over the years has familiarized Nintendo with ways people get together and play, and it’s going to spend its companies long life investing, marketing, and selling to the fun lovers of the world, rather than fight over the best of the best seekers that Microsoft and Sony are fighting over.
