Who doesn’t love Deadpool? The Merc with the Mouth shot to superstardom with the release of 2014’s Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds. While general moviegoers might not have realized it prior to seeing the film, it’s now clear that Deadpool is part of the larger X-Men universe. But do you realize just how deep the character’s connection to Xavier’s team of gifted youngsters goes?

For instance, did you know Deadpool’s creation was a result of the same Weapon X program that spawned Wolverine? Cable might be hell-bent on killing Deadpool in Deadpool 2, but the two of them actually teamed up in their own spinoff comic and both were members of X-Force. Cable’s parentage suggests a major connection that brings Deadpool in contact with the larger players of the X-Men universe. Deadpool’s first-ever appearance was in New Mutants #98, with The New Mutants being an upcoming horror film in the X-Men Cinematic Universe. There’s an excellent fan theory that Deadpool’s movie actually takes place in one of the comic books that appears in James Mangold’s Logan. Julian Dennison’s character is being kept under wraps, but there’s a solid chance he might be playing one of the more obscure X-Men from the comics. A romance with one of the more famous players in the X-Men roster could make its way to the big screen. There might even be a reason to allow X-Men Origins: Wolverine to exist in this universe!
