Refugee Family Reunited After Months Apart

Bassel Shekhany is 26 and from the Syrian capital, Damascus.

He always planned that his wife, his twin sister and his parents would join him at some point, but he did not expect them to have to make the same hard and dangerous journey across the Aegean Sea and through Europe that he’d made.

The situation in Syria had become so bad though that his family decided the time had come to leave. They would have to make the journey through Europe in mid-winter.

Their journey itself was extraordinary. They were shipwrecked twice.

The conclusion to their journey is the family reunion.
