The WWE has it’s own collection of animated movies, but the pro-wrestling company has been around long enough to have a lot of influence on the animated genre. By looking back at some animated hits from companies like Disney, Pixar, and Warner Bros., you can see some direct references to the world of wrestling and the WWE.

In Monsters Inc, the CDA protects the monsters from children. One agent goes so far as to perform an elbow drop on one of the monsters. In Shrek, a whole fight scene is styled like a WWE match and features a number of signature wrestling moves and poses. In Green Lantern: First Flight, Hal Jordan can use his ring to transform into literally anything, but he chooses the signature WWE weapon: a steel chair. The anime series One Piece features characters designed off of WWE Superstars like Mankind and Hulk Hogan. In a lot of DCAU films, Wonder Woman uses combat skills that are very similar to WWE Superstars like Brock Lesnar. Dwayne Johnson draws a lot from his WWE days in films and WWE references become animated within Moana. The animated/live-action hybrid film Small Soldiers features a clip from an actual WWE match. The main villain in Despicable Me 2 is known as El Macho, a character that is based off WWE legend Macho Man Randy Savage. In the Cars Toon short films, Tow Mater takes on the world of wrestling and there are numerous references to WWE characters and events. Ferdinand comes out this winter and stars WWE Superstar John Cena. Multiple trailers have already made reference to his WWE career. Watch to see all of these references to the WWE!
